I'm about to order 2 E6500's, I've got my configs pretty much worked, but I'm stumped on which screen and gpu to go with. I have a WSXGA 1680x1050screen on my current 15" Dell notebook and like it very much.

    Screen choices :
Do I go with the WXGA+ LED 1440x900 screen and sacrifce a drop in resolution for the same size screen, but gain on better battery life and a brighter screen ?

Or do I get the WUXGA 1920x1200 TFT screen ? I mean how usable is a 15" WUXGA screen. It'll give me a higher res, but I suppose will burn thru the battery much faster ?

GPU - nVidia discreet or onboard Intel X4500

This one has me stumped even more. Most people are saying the nVidia quadro on the E6500's aren't that great and not far from the onboard X4500's. Seems as tho the X4500 are Vista Aero certified again will be much lighter on the battery without sacrificing much over the quadro. If you're not a gamer is there any other reason to not go with the onboard Intel GPU ?

What are you guys doing on these 2 choices ?

The screen rez would affect battery life a little bit, since the GPU would have to render more higher quality images. I myself am sticking to the 1440x900 rez when I order my E6400.

This chart gives some hardware differences between the two. Turns out that the Intel 4500's core speed is somewhat slower than the NVidia Quadro 160M. But, the Intel option has 2 more pixel shaders. I don't think it's worth the extra $70 (on the Dell US builds) for the NVidia option.

The nVidia option is worth the extra money because you get at least decent OpenGL drivers. If don't need that I would prefer the Intel solution because it saves more battery power.

Intel 4500MHD has OpenGL 2.0 support, Shader 4 and naive HD BD support

Of course the 4500 supports OpenGL 2.0 but that doesn't mean it's reliable. Try running Maya on a 3100 with the latest drivers.
