I have a e6500 and I am having issues writing files to DVD-r and CD-Rs... When write a DVD-r/CDr the drive see the media and starts buffering but does not write anything... I am using good media Verbatim DVD-R 16x and RiData CDr and have tried several of each just in case one disk was bad.

I have also tried writing everything from single small office docs to full ISOs and no luck with either. I have used vista built in writer along with Ashampoo

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh as a reader the drive works perfectly, just has issues when I ask it to write.

the drive is a: TSST corp DVD-+ RW TSU663a

Burning program doesn't make the sense - you can try to upgrade firmware for your burner drive, but, before you do it, be sure it isn't defective - do some tests with Nero CD/DVD speed...

There is a firmware upgrade for the TS-U663A on the Dell site.

Also make sure you are running the latest version of the Intel Matrix Storage software. It can affect the ODD operation.

    John,

I tried upgrading the driver and it crashed in the middle of install and on reboot I could not boot into normal mode, once I did a system restore I was able to get back into normal mode but from that point on my drive was dead... I called Dell and they are next day airing me a drive...

As far as the intel matrix, what is it and how do I check the version? I have looked in my apps, program files and start menu and see nothing like that.

    thanks in advance.

I have an update... The new drive has just arrived, its a Mata UJ862A.

But I ma have the expect same problem. it works great as a reader but when ever asked to write it claims the media is bad... I have used three different brands and types of media, so I think the issue is not with the media but else where.

I ran Nero Diskspeed and is see the media as empty media as good, is just seems like I have a problem with getting both drives to act as writers.

I will give Dell a call and see if they have any ideas.

    UPDATE:
updating the intel matrix did the trick, thank you.
