I've had some trouble with severe lag at startup with Windows xp.
After some troubleshooting, it seems to be related to the Intel Wifi services, of which I have several listed under "Services" in msconfig.
My Wifi card is the Intel 5300 and if I only run the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service, start-up happens without lag.
If I add any of the other Intel Services (Wireless REgistry Service, Wireless SSO Service, Wireless Event Log), it can take several minutes of unresponsiveness before things finally work.

Do I need these other services? WiFi seems to work fine, as far as I can tell. I use the Intel Conncection Manager , not the Dell utility to connect.

Second question: I move my laptop frequently from the table to my lap and back, and the adapter plug comes lose fairly easily, even though the cord is not pulling on it.
Is this a common problem with the E6500?

I don't know the details of what those services do. If you encounter no problems with having those services disabled then leave them disabled.

The main power connector for my E6400 is quite tight (I assume you are referring to the plug into the computer) and would never come out accidentally. The E6500 should be the same.

Thanks! I guess I'll have to call Dell support and see what they have to say about the issue.
It's a little annoying to find you've been running on battery for several hours, just when you actually need to use the laptop on battery power.
The plug doesn't fall out completely, but gets loosened enough, that it goes to battery power without me noticing.
