I recently purchased a Latitude E6500 with fingerprint reader. I was so impressed with the Studio15 that I had. Here is the problem the software with the E6500 doesn't let you login on websites or programs, like the Studio did.
When contacted Dell they stated that it will only work with Vista. My E6500
came preloaded with XP Pro. So I bit the bullet and downgraded to Vista.
Guess what still no use except to log into windows. Wave software SUCKS!
Does any one know of software that will work in XP with the Latitude?
Digitalpersona does not have a XP version yet. Yet on my Studio I converted to XP and it worked. Anyone have a link to the fingerprint software on the Studio?

Have you tried the Studio's fingerprint software (is it UPEK Protector Suite QL?) on the Latitude? I'm using it on my D620 and it works great.

The Authentek 28xx hardware looks same/similar to the E6500 fingerprint scanner, but they only seem to have Vista drivers for Studio on the website?

Any success with the Vostro R180769 UPEK suite on XP anyone?

I un-installed Wave and tried the QL suite, it didn't seem to recognise the broadcom USH/CV driver which I left loaded, I then tried the authentec drivers instead of the broadcom USH/CV driver, but it didn't recognise the hardware.

So unfortunately doesn't look like it QL suite can replace Wave suite, unless anyone knows different ...

i would like this for my e6500 as i have the FIPS fingerprint scanner and it only allows me to log into the bios then onto windows some extra functionality like program and website logging would be nice considering the premium i paid over the upek scanner ....

Have you tried the UPEK Protector Suite QL? I have got it working with a Dell USB UPEK fingerprint reader and it does support logging in to websites. In addition it seems much more stable then the WAVE Embassy software. The FIPS fingerprint reader in E6500 is made my UPEK so there is a good chance it will work.

To the get the UPEK Protector Suite QL, download it from the Dell Vostro 1510 Download and Drivers page. If you decide to use this software you should probably purchase a proper license from UPEK.

You probably need to install updated UPEK drivers before installing UPEK Protector Suite QL. You can download them from UPEK: http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows.asp

BTW, do you think you could take a screenshot of the device manager showing the FIPS fingerprint reader device on E6500? It would be good to know if it looks different from the standard fingerprint reader on E6400.

i have tried in vain to get this to work but to no avail , shame tho the upek software allows loggin into firefox passwords that would have been ideal !

I have an E6500 downgraded to XP. I use my fingerprint to get through BIOS and to log on to my laptop. In fact, I am extremely happy with it, with the only bug I have found being that the scanner will not read when I wake the computer up from hibernate. Waking up from standby however works fine, although I have to wait for two seconds or so after the BIOS screen works.
How did I get it to work?
Well, I was actually just toying around, and it just worked. For starters, I can tell you that I first went to the Control Panel, clicked User Accounts, and on the Advanced tab selected the Secure logon option.
Second, while logged on as a User with Administrator privileges, I went again to Control Panel, clicked Dell ControlPoint, and clicked Security Manager at the bottom. The screen that that opens has three blue lines, the first of which was Run Security Configuration Wizard. I did, then enrolled by fingerprints (two fingers, in case I get a cut in one).
    Good luck....
