I used Windows Defender to stop ControlPoint from running at startup and now the visual displays of brightness and volume (onscreen displays, not the task bar) are gone.

Dell is useless as to the problem, hence I turn to the real experts....

I have not played around with ControlPoint yet on my new E6500. But I would guess it is needed to control the brightness and backlit settings and on-screen notifications.

Are you asking if it is possible to get this without letting them run (keep them blocked) or rather how to unblock them from Defender so they run properly?

I can still adjust the vol and brightness, I just do not get the on screen displays.

I'd l,ike to figure out why, even if I oprn ControlPoint, they don't show up.
