I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a Latitude E6420 in the Dell Outlet. I've found one that has the 1600x900 display and several other features I want, but I'm concerned that it may be OVER-POWERED for a 14" laptop....

It has a quad-core i7-2670QM processor, NVIDIA Quadro 4200M discrete graphics and 7200rpm hard drive. Any opinions on whether the E6420's cooling system can handle that much power (without fan noise driving me crazy all the time)?

Really depends on how hard you're driving it. If you are ordering the quad core pre-installed, it should be able to keep up though keep in mind that the GPU isn't really all that powerful. If you're doing work that constantly generates high loads on the GPU, you might want a Precision.

It can run some very basic 3D games or older ones, but you'll want an XPS or an Alienware if you're big on gaming.
