I'm still looking forward to an actual system weight of:

Dell Latitude e6420 with 6 cell battery / DVD Drive etc.

Can anyone pop theirs on their kitchen scales?

First of all, thanks again for the further clarification about the graphics card in Linux.

In your message you write "if you have the kernel set up to handle turbo properly". Could you please clarify? I am waiting mine to arrive and I will be using Linux (Debian unstable) as my only OS.

Also, have you tried this: https://launchpad.net/~hybrid-graphics-linux Are the instruction available on that site enough to switch the nvidia card off (to minimize power consumption)?

As for the other hardware components... do they work in Linux (e.g., wifi card, backlit keyboard, ...)? Which distribution do you use?

    Bye
    G.

Mine arrives tomorrow with these specs. If no one posts the weight before then, I will.

I have an E6420 coming today with 1600x900, 6 cell, DVD-RW, 8GB. I'll post the weight before I swap out the hard drive for my Intel SSD.

Just a warning for Linux users. I see some are happy with it in Linux, which I don't understand at all. The touchpad is not supported to be configured by the current kernel. So you can't use scroll or whatever. Dealbreaker for me.

This sucks so bad. Back in December I was about to buy a e6510 and I waited for the e6520 for Sandy bridge. It seems like the software improvement doesn't outweigh the hardware failures. I just wasted 4 months for no reason. Guess I have to go back to the outlet to find me a e6510. Maybe Ill just switch to a thinkpad.

Do you mean you do not get any gesture but it works as a basic mouse or it is not recognized at all? Where do you get this information from?

    Thanks

If that was directed to my response I regret to inform you that E6520's touchpad is not supported either. Alps (the touchpad provider on Dell) doesn't give Linux support (open source or drivers), so people have to hack and reverse engineer drivers. Plain stupid.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can use it as a basic mouse. It gets recognized as a "Basic PS2 mouse" or something in the kernel.
