    Hey guys!

    I purchased a used E6420 (model without NVS 4200) and I bought an i7 2860QM on top.
The book works excellent with the 2860QM except the high temperatures and the high noise under high load.

I started reading this thread and on page 83 I saw a picture of the cooling system with single heatpipe: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/e6420-owners-thread.564579/page-83#post-8280386

Within this post I found the hint that all i7 Quad-models with NVS 4200 have a twin pipe cooling system, the Dell P/N for that is "TYP01".

Now my question: Can I use this dual pipe "TYP01" (...designed for use with NVS 4200...) for my system that has NO NVS 4200 onboard? (Does my non NVS 4200 has the same heatpipe dimensions?)

I would buy this one: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Genu...N-0TYP01-laptop-cooler-qulity/1596435297.html

    Thanks in advance for feedback!

Perhaps the issues to check are (i) whether the CPU is in exactly the same place on both the dGPU and non-dGPU versions and (ii) whether there are any components on the non-dGPU version located in the position of the dGPU.

Or, in other words, the twin heat pipe cooling system should work provided it fits. The performance won't be adversely affected if the small heatsink for the dGPU is sitting on nothing and, without the heat generated by the dGPU then cooling of the CPU should be even better.

A question regarding USB 3.0 and Express Card:

How is the Express Card/54 slot physically connected in Latitude E6420?

    @ sapphire_pro

Don't know how the Express Card slot is physically connected, but using a USB 3.0 card in this slot is a huge improvement over USB 2.0. When I backup my E6420 via the USB 3.0 Express Card to a 1GB 2.5" hard drive, I get from 700 to 1100 MB/s transfer rate.

Also, let us know how it goes when you get the new heatsink installed--temps and noise. I've got a dual core in my non-NVS 6420 and would like to upgrade to a decent quad.

What memory module brands you use that are correctly being identified and working with your laptop? Not all work is what I read on DELL forums.

Anyone is aware of Pacific Sun modules and whether they work well with E6420? Do Patriot, PNY, Corsair and G.SKILL work?
