After having consulted Dell, and having received an answer to the negative, I wonder if any E6410 owners have managed to use a male DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter to get a video and AUDIO output to a TV. I'm looking for a single cable HDMI solution to audio and video and my E6410 has Intel integrated graphics.

I purchased a Male DP to Male HDMI cable online somewhere pretty cheaply and used it perfectly fine with my E6400 with video + audio. I wouldn't imagine that it would be a problem to do the same with the 6410. The key for me is to go into the audio output settings and change it to digital. I have an E6410 at home I can try to test it when I get home if I can find the cable.

That would be great, because Dell Support gave me a very definitive answer to the contrary, and quite frankly, the only examples of Dell E6410 owners getting and audio output from a DP to HDMI adapter are the ones with NVIDIA graphics. I see from your sig that your E6400 has NVIDIA graphics, does your E6410 have Intel integrated graphics?

I tested it with my E6410 and it did work fine, but mine is the nVidia 3100M version, so I guess it isn't that much of a help for you.

I was going to test it with my new E6220 with integrated Intel graphics...but then I realized that Dell finally gave up on DP and it has an HDMI port anyhow.

Thanks. I guess I'm lucky that all of my displays and TVs have a VGA input - and unlike HDMI and DisplayPort, VGA is hot-swappable.

Thanks. I think that is a nice confirmation for E6410 owners with NVIDIA graphics - so you've probably helped someone down the line.

DisplayPort was a royalty free connector, unlike HDMI. Personally, I think that HDMI is going to be the universal A/V connector in the future as DVI and VGA are deprecated. Of course, Apple doesn't like to pay royalties, which is why the miniDisplayPort connector has been preserved for Thunderbolt.

In any case, kudos to Dell for going to HDMI in the E6x20 generation.

    Hello
I had the same problem after reinstalling the OS and the firmware update.

I started to try things and discovered that going back to the Bios version A05 returned to work properly the sound on DisplayPort.

    Hope this helps.

I'm sorry for reviving such an old post but is someone please able to confirm that audio with DisplayPort only works fine with bios no later than A05? In changes and fixes for A06 I see something that could have caused it:

This E6410 has Intel HD Graphics Chipset
and BIOS A11, and the miniDisplayPort plays video and sound to my TV's HDMI, via adapter.
