Hi, glad I found this forum, hoping you guys can help.

I have recently got myself a used E6410. I was giving it extremely cheap due to a issue where it kept freezing when the AC is plugged in and hoping I can fix it. Works fine on battery, but as soon as the AC goes in, its only a matter of time before it totally freezes up again. Normally its sooner rather than later though.

I have tried everything to fix this, from no battery, docking stations, new chargers, memory etc etc. Iv exhausted everything and am adamant its a motherboard issue, as I have seen this problem with the E6410 on a couple other forums.

If anyone can confirm this with me, or maybe knows a way to fix this?

The only thing I have come up myself to fix this is to replace the motherboard. This is where it gets a little confusing.

I realise there are 2 models, one with an NVIDIA NVS 3100M and one with the Intel 3000HD. I have the Intel 3000HD version.

    Am I correct in saying?:

    NVIDIA model motherboard = YH39C
    Intel model = 8885V

What I want to know is, can I replace my 8885V straight with a YH39C, as I have to replace my motherboard anyway, why not get the one with the better graphics card on it, but not sure if it will fit. Also can someone confirm Ive got the right model numbers please.

I have the i5 520m setup if the helps.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can use either the Nvidia or Intel motherboard. The only thing you may need to change is the heatsink. Don't worry about the part numbers, just look for Intel or Nvidia boards.

Have you reinstalled Windows yet? This sounds more like a software issue (driver related, possibly video) rather than hardware.

thanks so much, that was what I was hoping for. But I never considered the heat sink. Do you know if this is for definite, and if so is there a model number for it, or should I just look for "E6410 heat sink for nvidia" or something like that?

DP/N KTPRC is the heatsink for NVIDIA models. Make sure you find one that is new, otherwise the thermal pads may be cracked or damaged.

Hi sorry for the delay in replying. Im definitely sure its not the OS, due to the fact in does during the installation of windows also on both XP and Windows 7. So unfortunately am left having to replace the motherboard.

I wanted to double check though as I didn't consider the heat sink. Can I still use the same fan as the one I have now on the Intel model or do I need to get the heat sink and fan.

So I can just be sure with my self before I spend any money:

So if I get the motherboard and heat sink, (and fan depending on what im told) im good to go?

    thanks again guys

I don't think you need to change the fan. Most of the time the fan comes attached to the heatsink too.
