Google is tricky. Because some point to JEDEC standard allowing backwards compatibility. I know DDR3 will work on DDR3L slots as tested on one of Samsung laptops. (I know manufacturer, bios uniqueness, etc that may or may not allow)

Now the question is.. can I ever get DDR3L stick to work on a conventional DDR3 SLOT?

I just plugged in the single stick 8GB DDR3L into my E4310, and it posts and shows the right RAM on the bios. But as soon as the Windows balls appear to load, it gives me bluescreen and crashes right away. All this happens in a split second and I cannot even make out the actual error code of the bluescreen.

Bios is all up to date. I know the first generation Core i series processors can take in 16GB of RAM.

Most of what I see is people asking if DDR3 stick will work on DDR3L slot. My question is the opposite.

I would appreciate any feedback that can help me get this to work! I am tired of bottlenecking with my 8GB (2x4GB) currently installed...

It is supposed to work. DDR3L is just regular DDR3 except that it runs at 1.35v instead of 1.5v. Every DDR3L module should be able to run at regular volts because running at lower is actually more difficult and they're validated to work on it.

JEDEC spec says that ddr3l is backwards compatible with ddr3 due to the reason I mentioned.

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried putting in one stick of 8gb into the slot and it just wont work!! Any ideas to why?

Bios is up to date but I dont think that matters..

    Update:

    I FOUND THE ANSWER..

You have to had quad core first gen i7 to run 16gb set up. Dual cores wont do....
