John Ratsey, thanks a lot for this picture!

Is it yours? Would you be able to take another one of the 1440 x 900, with a better resolution? As long as we see a little bit of the black border, we'd be able to have a good idea of the result, I think.

    Does the attached help?

    It's an up-to-date photo of the E6400 WXGA+ screen.

    Palmboy5's comment is right on.

    I have been using 1440x900 on a D620 14.1" screen and I wish it was 1680x1050.

My next laptop will be a Latitude E6500, 15.4" running 1920x1200.

I have bad vision too, wearing corrective lenses.

    1440x900 on a 14.1" is 120 DPI

...which gives a pixel size somewhere between those of 13.3" 1280x800 and 12.1 1280x800.

So if you can find a store and look at a 13" laptop and a 12" laptop... the pixel density is about halfway in between.

    Hi,
i own a Latitude D610 which is a 14.1" screen and 1400 x 1050 screen resolution. I think it is too small and in fact, if there had been any lower res to choose from, i'd go for a 1280 x 1024 in the old days or 1280 x 800 today on a 14.1" screen.

Yes, you can scale the fonts in XP, but the results are awful. The text boxes of the messages cut the message, in internet explorer images get blurry and overall, it's really not what i expected it to be.

I now use 110 dpi fonts instead of the 96 dpi windows standard and it's ok, but be aware that the feel in windows will not be as good as a 96 dpi.

    Cheers

In my opinion 1440x900 is perfect for both 14 and 15 inchers. And don't they only offer 1440x900 in LED category?

A friend of mine is a programmer and he was delighted at first at his Latutudes' 1680x1050 (15 inches) but it proved to be rather uncomfortable for longer periods of time and he bought a second monitor eventually.

I have a Vostro 1400 with 1440x900 and this is okay-ish when I'm sitting in front of it, when I'm lying in bed surfing or when I have a book in front of me and the computer is put a little further away it's not so easy to read things anymore. Windows (and Linux too as far as I know) can scale the font but resolution still is pretty important when it comes to usability (size of icons, large fonts is cut off by windows with fixed size etc.).

It's quite small but it's acceptable, I'd say.*

    Thanks everybody for the help!

    * Maybe you should give a try to this extension! It works on FF3 by forcing it. :D
