    E6400
Windows 7 x64 RTM from TechNet
    Latest BIOS, DCP drivers, etc

Not sure if anyone else is running into this but I will put my computer into hibernate by closing the lid and toss it in my bag. Works for about 5-7 hibernates and then sometimes it will look like it is hibernating, but the machine never turns off. I open the lid and see that the keyboard backlight is on and the num lock or caps lock will go on and off, but I can't get the screen back. I can only hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then restart.

    Anyone else run into this?

I experienced such a phenomenon once while going into standby. Since I'm using Win7x64 for a rather long time now and this has never happened before, I suppose it could be related to some driver of newer date.

This may not be a Windows 7 issue: My E6400 with XP Pro has recently developed the annoying habit of not hibernating at the first attempt if it has been on for several hours. The display goes blank and then, after a few seconds, the long-on box appears. It goes into hibernation at the second attempt. BIOS?

So far I have seen no hibernation problems on the E4300 which has W7-64.

Same thing has happened here once on Vista.

Once? It happens every 5-7 times then I have to go through the reboot!

As soon as I get my hands on a Dell OEM W7 x64 CD I will reload I think.

If you have a webcam, disable it in Device Manager and see if the problem goes away.

Since Windows XP, hibernate has not been reliable and I would not recommend using it. If you turn it off, you'll also get a bit of hard drive space back as the hibernate file is the same size as the amount of RAM you have.

I got a Dell Windows 7 x64 Business CD and loaded it up on a spare drive. It's working better than my TechNet 7 x64 Ultimate.

I HATE to reboot, I use sleep or hibernate when I can. I like to close the lid and run. Hard drive space is cheap. Hibernate was just fine in Vista x64 for me on a D630.

I've been using hibernation for the past 15 years. The productivity gain of not having to remember where I was when I shut the computer down is substantial, never mind that the computer comes out of hibernation far faster than it can boot.

I'm with you John. I sometimes go 30 days without a reboot. The computer comes out of hibernation significantly faster than it can boot.
