People have been complaining about the low contrast of the E6400, whereas in general people have been satisfied with the XPS M1330. Don't they use the same LED screen, or are they different?

Well, my 1330 had a CMO LED screen and it was absolutely awful. It had faint yellow lines running across it (obviously a mnaufacturing flaw). I returned it and the next one had a Toshiba LED screen, which was much better.

I am now using a E6400 w/ a Sammy LED screen and it is ok. Not the greatest.

Dell should find out who supplies Sony with their Xbrites because those screens are beautiful.

Besides the obvious differences in size and resolution, the 1330 LED is not as bright as E6400 (no problem though) but contrast is much better as you can see in this review by Notebookcheck.

I don't know which brand of panel they tested though.

The E6400's screen looks washed out at full brightness because the backlight is very bright. I think that high brightness is provided so that the screen can be used in the sunshine (I've done it). The E6400's screen at half brightness has good contrast and is brighter than my Zepto 6024W's screen at full brightness. I used to think that was bright when I got it 14 months ago (but CCFL tubes do tend to lose brightness with age - another reason to go for LED).

John I think your LG is much better than the Samsung LED. The E6400 I saw had unimpressive contrast, also at lower brightness. Photos looked unrealistic.

I agree, the LG must be a lot better (at least in terms of contrast) because mine has pretty bad contrast at all brightness levels

I do agree that CCFL lose the brightness over time, but it isn't within 14 months. The life span of CCFL is 50000-60000 hours. There is no way that it will lose the brightness that fast. Don't forget that big screen monitor and LCD TV are using CCFL tube too. I have seen like 6-7 year old monitor that still looks bright to me.

Hmm. I find the Samsung screen great. Though perhaps not as much contrast as my dad's Sony SZ. (CCFL screen on that)
