Does anyone have any thoughts about which is better? i realize the e6400 can configured with a higher resolution and bigger screen, but does anything else stand out as different? Also, does the e6400 media card reader inlcude compact flash?

The build quality is completely different. The E6400 is designed and built to survive in the business environment with, for example, magnesium alloy based and display back.

The E6400 uses the new Intel chipset which, when coupled with the X4500 graphics, can give very good battery life.

The media card read in the E6400 supports SD and similar cards. If you want to read compact flash then configure the E6400 with a PC Card slot and use a PC Card - compact flash adaptor.

the e6400 is much more durable and i heard the 8400 gs series on the m1330 was a "ticking timebomb"

imo i think business laptops should be a standard if u ever want to take it anywhere, but if you want it at home and the gpu bug on the m1330 is fixed, id say go for the m1330 for the lower price

I've heard the NVS135M is affected as well (Quadro 135M) on the D630? Any truth to that?

Absolutely. I've taken my D830 through airport security close to 100 times in the past year, used it constantly, etc., and it shows no visible signs of wear except on the keyboard from my typing.

Somehow I doubt a consumer laptop with a plastic case would have fared quite as well.

The D630 is on Dell's list.

I understand that many nVidia GPUs are vulnerable to the packaging deterioration, but the driving factor is the thermal cycling. The slim design of the M1330 has made it more vulnerable since the cooling system is more challenged to dispose of the heat. The BIOS updates probably increase the fan activity (and noise) in order to limit the maximum temperatures.

I couldn't live without the build quality in my business class vostro. I handle my HP tablet like its a half cracked egg about to burst after handling my vostro.

Wow, you must be living a good clean life in order to be so lucky. Plus, your machine must be much better built than I'd have ever guessed. Congrats on your good fortune!

Thanks for sharing that. It's very reassuring with regards to the build quality of Dell business class notebooks just in case I go with either E6400 or M2400.

I've never had a Dell laptop damaged while I was using it. I travel a LOT, and frequently take stuff to work and campus.
