The one big thing that I really miss compared to my ThinkPad T43p is an app that can change to various display presets using a hotkey. Presentation Director would activate my 24" widescreen, put it to the left of the laptop display, and set it as the primary monitor, all with a key combination and one click. On the E6400, I have to open Display Properties and change each setting, which is kind of annoying. Is there any way I could get similar functionality with another app? (Also, I will be adding a second 24" LCD now that there are two DVI ports, so it will be even more of a pain to set the options then.)

Can you not simply setup the displays in the Display Properties the first time and then hit Fn+F8 whenever you need to go to that setup again?

Nope, the settings don't stick. I want the 24" LCD positioned to the left of the laptop display, with the bottoms of the displays lined up and the 24" as the primary (because that's how my desk is set up, and how it has been set up ever since I got rid of my desktop over three years ago). The best it can do is the laptop display as primary, with the 24" to the right of the laptop and the tops of the displays lined up. Not really acceptable, and I can't rearrange my desk, because this is the way the equipment fits best. I'm not sure what it will do when I get another 24" widescreen, but my guess is it won't work very well.

Isn't there something like this right in the Intel GMA control panel? IIRC the HP tablet we have here at work allows various setting from hotkeys. Not sure about the 4500 driver though.

I have the Quadro NVS 160M, and the nVidia control panel is singularly unhelpful.

Nvidia is REALLY hard to figure out how to get it to do it by itself. Hell I did things with older nvidia firmwares that I can't figure out how to do now. It's there SOMEWHERE you just gotta find it. Nvidia has lots of features hidden in there for multiple displays and it's really useful once you understand it(if I can ever find those features again). I used the firmware on my desktop at one point but stopped (gfx card is half dead so I guess that's why it wasn't working too well for me)
