After lugging around my Inspiron 9300 for over 3 years I was really excited to finally purchase a laptop a bit closer to my needs.

So first off, everything about the build quality is solid. It's everything I've ever wanted in terms of look & feel. The keyboard, lid, and slim power adapter seem to really stand out.:

Now the bad part ... my 1440x900 LED back-lit screen is awful. I spent nearly an hour trying to adjust the screen and the colors continue to be washed out. Viewing angles are horrible as well, tilting the screen less than an inch changes half of the colors darker/lighter. This is the kind of thing I'd expect out of DELL's cheapest monitors. I'm back on my Inspiron 9300 and the difference is amazing .. and this isn't even close to a perfect screen.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be more than happy to listen, otherwise I'm back to breaking my back with my 17" 9300.

Are you running that display at full brightness? The backlight is very bright and you only need full brightness if in the sunshine. I normally run my display at around 50% to 60% brightness and the contrast is much better than at full brightness.

What panel is it? Device Manager > Monitors > Plug and play Monitors > Properties > Details > Hardware IDs. Mine is the LPL0140 (LG-Philips). The other one is a Samsung (SEC).
