I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my e6400 with p9500, 256mb graphics, 4gb ram and 256gb SSD. First, 7 BLOWS Vista to shreds regarding speed. It is unreal how clean and efficient it is. My first question is in the power settings, high performance is gone. Anyone know why? Also, the Windows Performance Rating shows the following:

    Processor: 6.1
    RAM: 6.1
    Graphics: 3.4
    Gaming Graphics: 5.3
    Primary HD: 6.9

The scoring goes up to 7.9. Do you guys think those are low? I'm surprised gaming graphics are higher than Aero graphics and that the hard disk is only a 6.9 and the processor is only 6.1. Anyone else? Any advice?

That's strange. I still have it. Did you do a clean install? I've updated my vista ultimate x64 to windows 7 RC.

I've got the same 3.4 graphics score as you have. My other scores are proc 6.4, ram 6.4 gaming 5.1 and disk transfer rate 7.5. .

High Performance can be accessed by click on "More Power options" when you click on the system tray power/battery icon.

Once you click on "More Power Options", a panel will open, with 2 sections:
"Plan shown on the battery meter", and "Hide additional plans". with the ability to show/hide that last section, by using the gray button arrow.

High Performance is just as good as Balance, and Balance is even recommended for laptop to keep heat to minimal. I don't believe in performance gain, as your system processors will go full power/speed when you need it.

Your score is fine. The score was increased, because most mid-high-range desktop system (with SSD) shows 5.9 all over. 7.9 Presents a better score for really high end system, like: High-speed low-latency Triple channel memory system, high speed SSD's, multiple GPU's support, and Core i7 CPU, and what is to come in the next 3 years.

Is the system run smoothly? Same or better than Vista? Then no worries.

    My score is as follows:
    - CPU 5.9 (P8400, that is why)
    - RAM: 6.4 (I don't know why it's higher.. i guess Dell put fastr memory on my system)
    - Graphics 3.4
    - Gaming: 5.1 (Probably Drivers related)
    - HDD: 5.3 (5400RPM HDD)

I'm really happy with W7's performance on my E6400. Feels a little better that Vista, but with the UI advancements...its hard for me to even think about using Vista again now.

So glad I have two keys for W7 Pro through MSNDAA, one for the desktop and one for the laptop :D.

Win7 has SSD optimization put in place to take better advantage of the technology.
I think that perhaps a new file format is in order.. but my guess is that will be Win8.

No. It is blindingly fast. Not only does Windows get to the desk faster, but after I hit enter when typing my password, it is maybe a second to the desktop (previously 3 or 4) and now under 2 seconds to be completely ready to go (previously 8-10). Everything is fast and the way it groups and sorts windows is freaking amazing and efficient. I'm definitely impressed.
