So I received my E6400. In short, I like it. It came with 1gb of Ram. So I ordered 4gb of Crucial (2x2gb) ddr2 6400 to put in it.
Well. It's only recognizing one stick of it. The Ram itself is not bad. I've verified this by placing each stick in individually and I get no errors. Would there be any reason the computer would not be recognizing that second stick that isn't hardware?

The bios says the second slot is empty. Which either means that for some reason the software isn't recognizing the ram or the second slot itself is bad?

    What might you all suggest?

    Ah...specs.
Started out with XP. It did the same thing. only 1 stick was recognized.
I've installed Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
    T9800
    Bluetooth upgrade was user installed.
What other system info do you need?

It is is not recognized within the BIOS, and you have already tried swapping the RAM sticks around, the only other suggestion I can make is use some compressed air to try and clean the RAM slot. But if that does not work...

The motherboard RAM slot is bad. You'll need a motherboard replacement.

Alright. I'll try compressed air today.

What's the turn around time on something like that for Dell?
I have the standard warranty from the Outlet.

This varies on how many laptop they receive for repair, and where you live (country/state/province). Plus you need to add the shipping. Obviously, the closer you are from Dell, the faster shipping will be.

Canada and I believe few other countries as 3 year NBD as a minimum, but not in the U.S. Howveer, I know that Dell Canada doesn't have a Dell Outlet.

ah yes.. I'm in the US. Not sure how close I am to Dell. I'm expecting the total time for repair, from today, when I started the repair process to when I have the computer back will be about 10 business days or two weeks (because of weekends).

Okay. So let's say that the mobo is out for sure (kind of speculation at this point, but most likely). What's the chance of them merely replacing the mobo or just sending out a replacement computer?

They will replace the motherboard, where it will probably not work (based on a comments from people on this forum) because the technician miss installed it, and a replacement system should be made. Of course that is different if your laptop is from Dell Outlet.
