    Hey folks,

I've been occasionally browsing the outlet for a while. I want to get a latitude for next year when I'm off to college. I figure with upgrades & good care I can use it for 4 years and have the sort of dependability that can't be found in consumer notebooks.

Here are the specs of a Regatta blue I found... Any thoughts?

OS Genuine Windows XP Pro with Vista Business License
    Processor Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 (2.53GHz, 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    RAM 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (1 DIMM)
HD 160 GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Graphics NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M With PC-Card
Web Cam Integrated Webcam with digital microphone
Network Card Intel WiFi Link 5300
Battery 6 Cell Primary Battery, 90W AC Adapter
Keyboard Back-lit Keyboard, No Fingerprint Reader
Display 14.1 inch WXGA+ LED Laptop Screen
Optical drive 8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
Bluetooth Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
Price $879 before any outlet coupons

    Here's what I think:
+ P-series for cooler temps & battery life
+ Graphics for some light gaming
    + Good wireless card
+ Lightweight 6-cell battery so it's not as heavy to lug around all the time
    + Bluetooth
    + Backlit keyboard
    + Under $900

    - Almost no RAM, but can upgrade after purchase
    - I'm not sure about the DVD burner, as I hear it's been known to misbehave...

Should I go for this one? Regatta's not a terrible color, is it? (Looks nice from the photos I've seen, but I know photos have a tough time capturing the color)

    Thanks in advance.

Sort of like mine. You'll need more RAM after XP. Buying early to break it in before September is wise. A neoprene sleeve is great for stuffing it in a book bag. BT mouse is handy. PC Card is legacy; Express Card is future. 160GB is big enough... you'll have about 80-90 free for data.

    Consider extended warranty and accidental.
