The first E6400 we got has significant performance issues. I saw at least one other person describing how theirs was pausing a lot, and I had the same experience. I put in a different HD and installed XP from scratch. Note you have to use the newest Dell XP recovery CD, as the older ones don't have the SAS drivers integrated.

On subsequent E6400 we have had really good luck in uninstalling the DCP Connection Manager and DCP Security Manager, and having no performance issues come up.

On the system I re-installed from scratch, I am finding that both the WWAN Verizon 5720 and Intel WiFi cards often fail to work again after a Standby or Hibernate. Any suggestions? I have installed all the Intel Chipset and System software downloaded from support.dell.com, pretty much everything but the Connection Manager and Security Manager... all I can think to try is installing the Connection Manager and uninstalling it (it's just awful) to see if it adds some tweak fix to the hibernate issue.

Hope I help someone, and thanks in advance for any help with the hibernate issues.

You get support as part of buying a new laptop. Use it. In my experience, Dell is very helpful in this regard. Perhaps there is some sort of hardware issue causing it in your case. I can't speak for XP (my 6400 is Vista Business) but I have no issues with wireless functions after coming out of standby. Good luck!

I've not had any problems with my E6400 and wireless and I use hibernation all the time. However, I only have the Intel 5100 and no other wireless devices. IIRC, my E6400 came with XP SP2 and updating to SP3 was my first action. I presume you are running XP SP3.

I have seen the problem however, on other notebooks, including with Vista but XP SP3 / Vista SP1 cured a lot of them. Check out the Microsoft KB. Here's one suggestion.
