    Hi,

I just received my new Dell E6400 today. When I shut it down, or log off, a window pops-up with a message stating "explorer.exe is not responding'; I must then wait, or click 'end program.'

    Any ideas?????

    Many thanks,
    Joe

    Vista or XP?

    This refers to Vista.

Get used to it. That is Vista for ye. I've opened a similar thread here, and I still get it after a fresh Vista install. I've not broken hardware on my U6, I doubt your lappy has bad ram so...enjoy Vista.

Is this a clean system, or are you running 3rd party software when this happens? Could be some program that is not shutting down properly.

I have the same problem with the factory default installation of Windows XP on my E6400. I will most reinstall my laptop from scratch so I will not do much about but if you are going to use the factory default installation on your E6400 you should really report the problem to Dell to make them aware of it and fix it.

Problem solved: turn off/disable the windows start-up and shut-down jingle!

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the update.

I would never have guessed that: Turning off the Windows sound effects is one of my first actions with a new computer.
