    Hey Gang,

I have an E6400 running Vista 64. I've got a virtual PC running Windows XP on that. I'd like the virtual PC to be able to access the Embedded WWAN card, but I'm not having much luck.

The Dell (XP version) of the software does not install on the Virtual PC, claiming the system is not a Dell.

I found a generic copy of VZ Access Manager from Verizon, but that one says the WWAN card is turned off, although the switch is set to on and its not disabled in Vista.

Has anyone out there done this before?

    Thanks

I believe that you will have to run the WWAN card in the host OS, not the guest. Once running in the host, it would work like any other network connection in a virtual machine.

If it's possible, one way might be to load the driver only and setup a dialup connection that utilizes the card. The driver should be available out of the expanded Dell download for the card under XP.

If so, settings are as follows:

    Phone Number: #777
    Username: [phone_number_assigned_to_card]@vzw3g.com
    Password: vzw

Not sure it is possible to connect what is essentially a dial-up connection to virtual network.

Virtual PC can't access your hardware...
That is why you must mount from the menu bar an ISO or optical drive to make it appear on your guest OS (the one in the virtual PC). The guest OS uses "shared" networking.. meaning wtv the host uses, the guess will use it as well.

However, what you can do is if you look under the virtual machine settings inside Virtual PC, you can select which network card you would like to make it use... but I never tried it.

Thanks for the suggestions, gang. The WWAN adapter does not show up as an available adapter for the virtual PC...I'm going to see about setting up the DUN
