    Am I understanding this right?

You can only have a dvd burner if you also have vista ultimate?

I find it hard to believe that other Vista versions can't support DVD burners? Is that really the case?

    thanks

Obviously there is something going wrong with Dell's online ordering system.

Burning DVDs on Vista Home Basic or Vista Business needs additional software, a bundled Roxio Creator in the case of Dell. Vista Ultimate doesn't need that, as there is software included for burning DVDs, just as with Vista Home Premium.

The problem is that the ordering system seems to offer you the version without software, although it should normally offer you the version with software.
