In case you want to rebuild your E6400 from scratch, this list may be of some use to you. As of 12/April, the following downloads are available for Vista 64-bit (similar downloads for other Windows versions), essential downloads are highlighted in green.

    Applications (7)

    1. Dell Application, ControlPoint Connection Manager - this is the Connection snap-in for ControlPoint System Manager (2), non-essential unless you like to do things through ControlPoint.

    2. Dell Application, ControlPoint System Manager - this is the main ControlPoint user interface, it installs Power and Display snap-ins, you will need this if you want onscreen notifications.

    3. Dell Application, WebCam Software - for some reason it doesn't install and it's actually an older version, so use the CD instead and pass this one.

    4. Dell Application, ControlPoint Security Manager - this is the Security snap-in for ControlPoint System Manager (2), you will need this if you want to use the security features (unless you install Wave Embassy software separately).

    5. Dell Driver, ControlPoint Security Manager - this is the security driver pack, it contains driver for Broadcom USH (Unified Security Hub) among other things. This is also the prerequisite for (4).

    6. Dell Utility, Ambient Light Sensor - doesn't add new functionality to ControlPoint System Manager (2), maybe out dated, can pass.

    7. Dell XML File, ControlPoint System Manager - adds "All Day" battery configuraion in ControlPoint System Manager (2).

    Audio (1)

    1. IDT Driver, 92HDxxx HD Audio - audio driver.

    Bios (1)

    1. Dell Bios, Latitude E6400 System BIOS - update BIOS to A12.

    CD/DVD (2)

    1. Panasonic Firmware, UJ-862A 9.5mm trayload SATA DVDRW - firmware update for the specific Panasonic drive, don't have to worry about it unless you have one.

    2. TSST Firmware, TS-U633A 9.5mm Tray SATA DVDRW - firmware update for the specific TSSTCorp drive, don't have to worry about it unless you have one.

    Chipset (4)

    1. Intel Driver, Mobile Chipset - driver for Intel mobile chipset. Alternatively download the latest "INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets" directly from Intel.

    2. Intel Driver, AMT SOL/LMS - Intel Active Management Technology driver, not sure what it is, but can't seem to install anyway.

    3. Intel Driver, AMT HECI - Intel Active Management Technology driver, not sure what it is, but can't seem to install anyway.

    4. Ricoh Driver, R5C847 - driver for FireWire and card reader.

I believe the Dell download is a patch that installs over the existing CD version. Was required here to enable webcam video.

Only required if you want your unit managed by enterprise IT folks on a network. Must install DCP security driver first before these will install. Not required, imo.

I took a stab at putting together a reference such as yours... see the clean link in my sig.

I strongly disagree. Using the Vista drivers gives me louder and clearer sound than the IDT drivers. Also, the IDT drivers cause some audio crashes that I have not had with the Vista drivers.

also reported by another member (weirdo). I have annoying issues and crashes, and he said he had those and suggested i remove the IDT drivers because theyre no good anyway.

Guess its time to remove them!
