    Just installed Vista Ultimate today. But I found that this dell machine cannot have the 3D aeroglass. So when I click "Switch between Windows" in the taskbar, it won't show the 3D layer things.

    My Dell E6400:
    CPU = Intel P8400
    Memory = 2GB DDR2
    HDD = 320GB 7200RPM
    Video = 256MB nVidia 160M

    Can somebody advise?

    Are you perhaps on battery in power saver mode where Aero glass is turned off to save power ?

    When connected to AC and using the Balanced or High Perfomance power profiles, click start and in the search box type 'performance', then select the Performance Information and Tools program. Run WEI to obtain your score if it hasn't been done already Aero will be activated.

    The strange thing with Vista and Windows 7 is that after a fresh install Aero is disabled until you run the Windows Experience Score and it confirms you have the proper 3D support from your graphics driver. So just run that through Control Panel/System and when it completes you'll have full Aero turned on.

    Make sure you rate your computer with an Experience Index in the control panel. If that doesn't work, if you use the ControlPoint power saving features, you may have to go to display settings and choose 32 bit color.

    ^ Bingo! You have to do this every time usually.
