E6400 bios settings

    Hi,

    I finally received my E6400 machine.
    Later on today I will update the bios to A15.
    In the meanwhile I'm looking for the optimal bios settings for best performance.

    I'm using Win7 64 bit.

    Turn on VT and VT I/O if you are planning to use any Virtualisation software and if You want to use WinXP Mode in W7.

    Does anyone know if the hard drive option actually does anything? It can be set to "bypass", "quiet", and "performance". If this option does actually do something then it must be imperceptible because I can't tell a difference between the three.

    I don't recall anyone reporting any benefit.

    If your HDD is a Seagate from early 2009 then check for a firmware update. Some people have used hdparm to change the HDD's power management, although I've never done that myself.
