    Hi, I have an intel 7mm ssd from another laptop I need to access with my dell e6230. what sort of cable/enclosure should I buy? sorry for the newbie question...

    Any SATA to USB enclosure should work. I recommend this (I also have it); if I remember correctly (and reading reviews), it has screws to secure the HDD, so the 7mm height should not matter. If you want USB 3.0, this is highly recommended.
