Got some resolution haters up in there...lol

I guess its all personal preference. I'd love to see 1920x1200 on my 14" panel.

^That picture caused an audible outburst of laugher; the subsequent memory recollection of that picture has caused no less than 3 seemingly random outburst of laughter in a quiet office….thank you, good sir!

The NVIDIA Control Panel is awful. Intel has a much better GUI.

I am also pondering the E5420 vs the E6420. I assume the laptop is the same chassis/keyboard wise.

However, has anyone tried running 2 external monitors on the HD3000 in the dock? Does this work properly (as in, can it run 2x 1920x1200 external without problems?)

Woah! Man, I'm glad I saw this, I had never thought that there are Lattitude's without the modular bays -- that's one of the defining traits of a business notebook IMHO.

Well, OK: I was really going for the E5420, but I need to add a second HDD. I want the classical setup with an SSD for boot and conventional HDD for storage. Is this possible on the E5420 by some means -- are there 'fixed' DVD/RW Drive drive caddies available or something else...?

    Thank you,

The E5420 starts at $499 and the E6420 at $669, a difference of $170. They are almost identical in physical dimensions and look very similar. But the E6420 comes with a standard 3-year warranty, which is a $219 option on the E5420!

Besides the flexibility of the E6420's E-Modular Bay and some high-end optional features, port placement is the biggest difference between the two, IMO.

The E5420 has the audio port and one USB port on the right side toward the front corner. The left side has 2-USB, HDMI, SD card and a Firewire port (oddly, the 1394/Firewire port doesn't come on the E6420). There is a 4th USB port on the back at the right corner.

The E6420 has 3-USB ports lined up on the right side toward the back, then the HDMI port is just around the corner on the back. On the left side, it has a USB port toward the back edge along with a VGA and audio port. The SD card slot is on the front edge, which I prefer.
