Back to laptop hunting after my T60 finally failed me after years of abusive relationship  The E6400 would be great but it is way over my price range. With the current Dell's offering (35% off for E5400/D630), I am seriously tempted by these two. I just want to know the difference between the E5400 and the D630. Any help would be much appreciated!

I would say E5400, somewhat higher end model and better design >.>

Neither, go to Dell outlet, save 20% and get an E6400 for $600 and some change. Linky poo!

(This assumes, of course, that you live in the best place on earth :D )

    What's that monakh? I don't actually live in Antarctica so I don't know if I'm eligible :(

Anyhow, there are some deals that look good from Dell outlet. I trust previously new stuff but how much should I trust refurbished laptops?

Refurbished laptops looks identical to the new units, save for the green "refurbished" sticker stuck on the bottom of the laptop. When my refurb came in, I really couldn't tell the difference between that and a new one. They're a great deal IMO. :D

The D630 is the mainstream 14" Latitude model of the previous generation. The E5400 is the budget 14" Latitude model of the current generation. The D630 uses the old Santa Rosa platform whereas the E5400 uses the current Montevina platform. There's a bunch of cosmetic differences and differences in the selection of ports as well.

It's really hard to say which one you should get without knowing your preferred specs or usage. I like Monakh's idea of getting a refurbished E6400, though. The refurbished models, provided that you buy "Previously Ordered New" or "Certified Refurbished" are basically like new, with the exception of that aforementioned sticker.

I decided to go with this $683 deal(incl. tax and shipping) after free shipping and 20% from Dell Outlet. It's a refurb but the specs look really good for the price. Hope the laptop will turn out to be as good as advertised by you guys. Any comment?

Wow, I think you got an excellent deal! I have similar specs and I actually paid more for mine (I wish the coupons had been out when I was purchasing my latitude :( ).

You got a good deal man, I am sure you will love it and not regret it at all.

Refurb Dells are the best kept retail secret in Technology. I have been buying them from Dell for well over a decade and never regretted a single one. You will see that it looks new, aside from that lame sticker which you will quickly proceed to remove. :)
