nope, there is any 1.8'' hard drives larger than 128 ssd.
you have to opt for external hds.

As 'nomoredell' mentioned, the E4200 uses a 1.8" SSD SATA drive of some sort. At this time, there is no larger SSD drive in the form factor that is larger than 128GB.

I would suggest that you consider purchasing an external hard drive that has eSATA and USB ports. You can use the eSATA port to run the hard drive at full speed, and use a USB cable for powering the device.

You might also want to consider some kind of network storage, if you have a desktop sitting around. It isn't that difficult to set up when you are at home, and we can help you come up with a solution to stay connected to that storage when you are not in the home.

Well, Toshiba is a relative unknown in the SSD market, so I wouldn't trust their drive, however, the new Samsung 1.8" 256GB as well as the Intel X18-M 160GB are two very pricey options. The Intel is over $700 last I checked, and the Samsung is about a grand.

Edit: Keep in mind, though, that the two drives I mentioned (and probably the Tosh) are not bare drives like the one in the E4200. They have to be removed from their casing and will probably not line up with the holes in the E4200. Some hacking may be required. So in a way, Greg IS right. I know this because I have an after-market 64GB SLC from Samsung that requires some work to get into the E4200. Details are in the E4200 thread from another user who did this a couple of months ago,

Thank you all for your fast replys.

i do already have a external hard drive using the esata port - but at the end of the day it is still EXTERNAL and a bit of a pain if i want to you use my usb mouse, or charge my iphone because its using the 1 usb port!

So are we saying that the above HDD is compatible?

finally, maybe i could be happy with a 128gb where would be the cheapest place to get one from ?

Just notice that the above isnt SSD also, can it still be used?

    thank you all once again

    Jonathan

Oh wow, I just checked! (The link wasn't working so I just googled it now). I thought the drive was a variant of the new Tosh 512GB SSD but it's a standard spinner. Bad, bad John, linking a non-SSD-based drive for the E4200. ;) No, it won't work, Jonathan. You are right.

You should be able to get 128GB part straight from Dell. Heck there is even a 10% coupon out at the moment. Here you go. The part is pricey though so I would recommend you just wait it out or get it from eBay for 50% off or something.
