It has display port too right? Have you tried a display port to DVI adapter? Or a VGA to DVI cable?

I believe I have the same dock and I've definitely done three monitors including the built in panel.

I believe it DOES have a display port. No - I've not got a display port to DVI adapter. Is that the sort of thing you can find in the average computer shop?

Would there be much point in getting a VGA to DVI cable - I mean, I assume the advantage of DVI over VGA is digital over analogue and then, would the output be digital if I used such a cable?

The Nvidia control panel shows 3 Display ports, only one of which is in use (the second one, for some reason). According to specifications, "Display Port 1.2 - Adds the ability to daisy chain displays (4 displays via 1 connector)." But this is above my pay grade. I wouldn't know a daisy chained display if it leapt up and bit me. How do I 'daisy chain' my displays???

I'd be very happy to be enlightened on these matters. Thanks J

Multiple monitors add more pixelscto the story and make gpu work harder so its normal for fans to ramp up, but it shouldnt be loud or unbarable.

Story with my m6600 and dell pro02x was this - vga and notebook panel were always working off intel hd gpu, while both dvi and dp were working from nvidia gpu. Meaning once you plug something into dvi orcl dp you automaticly wake up nvidia card from low power state as it needs to run monitor and you get a spinning fan.

If you have vza and dvi monitors, just plug one into dvi and the other into dvi via dvi to gga adapter and be done with it :)

That's reassureing. I think. You are right: one monitor is off the Quardro K2000M and the other is off the Intel HD Graphics. But you lost me with the 'dvi orcl dp' bit of your reply - could you translate?

And which is better (and why) - the VGA to DVI adapter route OR the Display Port to DVI? Alex Hawker's link (below) suggests the second option is not expensive...

    Thanks both of you. J

It should say "dvi or dp".
Typing on touch screen is pain in the poop-manufacture-plant.

Id go with digital to digital always. Many notebooks have a habit of having some sort of interference when using vga so you get some wierd issues, cant remember the word in english :D so hdmi to dvi or dp to dvi is waycto go.

One note if you use dp to hdmi you also getcsound trough it regardless of which dp you use on my m6600 it worked both on dock and on notebook dp. Its awesome because i have everything connected to my dock now. Tv, external monitors, scanner, printer, phone charger, externap monitor an network. Cables are bot messy and it looks nice and simple.
