I have a new E4300 that I purchased with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it. I really would like to just stick with XP. Can a successful downgrade be completed? The E4300 has the following:

Intel Core2 Duo SP9600 with latitude ON
    8GB DDR3-1066 SDRAM
    Mobile Intel Wi-Fi link 5100
    Dell Bluetooth 365 module
250GB HDD with Free Fall Sensor, 7.2K (want to upgrade this)
    Backlit keyboard
    Webcam

Dell provides all the drivers you need to run XP on the E4300. I don't think there should be a problem. E4300s have had the option of shipping with XP since their introduction.

Since you have 8GB of ram which is a lot, you should downgrade to XP 64 bit which I hear is finicky. I would stick with 7 to maximize your up to date laptop.

I just moved from XP to 7 about 3 months ago and never looked back.
