The title is pretty self explanatory. I am wondering whether or not the E6400 has the Latitude-On feature or can be configured as such.

    Thanks!

It does not unfortunately, just the E4300 and E4200.

Actually, the E4200 and E4300 do not have Latitude ON either. Currently, they have Latitude ON reader, which is a useless bit of software, and Latitude ON is a promised future upgrade.

If you read Dell's promotional literature on the E4200 and E4300, it makes a big deal about Latitutde ON, and says nothing about it not actually being available. (In the 80's we had a term for this kind of computer application - we called it "airware".)

Of course, if you read Dell's promotional babble, then you would think the E6400 weighed 4.3 lbs too. More like 5.8 from what I've been reading.

Goodness knows how Dell gets away with all these marketing claims that have no basis in fact.

    Hmmmm...darn.

I seem to remember reading from somewhere that the functionality could be added in the future by installing an addon card. My subconscious is probably just making this crap up. Why in the world did the not make it available on the 6400. It seems like it would be very handy.

The latitude on is actually quite useless for my E6400 because resuming from hibernate takes only about 12 seconds (WinXP).

Also, most of these instant on programs are terribly coded and are not very efficient with power...

Personally, I just find instant on programs like Media Direct a pain in the rear end whenever it comes to reformatting or anything like that.

I order mine E6400 over the phone and I said I wanted the Latitude On feature, and said that it will be there. However I think you must take the Intel wireless card or something (he upgraded the wireless card for free for me and gaved me Latitude On for free as well)

With XP the hibernation / resume time depends on what applications you have open and how much RAM they are using. My E6400 normally takes a lot longer than 12 seconds to hibernate or resume but this is still much faster than a cold boot.

I completely agree. Part of the reason I got the E6400 is cause it doesn't have any of that instant on bull.
