    Hi everyone,

I just bought an E6400 from Dell outlet. So far I'm happy. I was just wondering about the PC card. Do ALL E6400s come with it? My PC card slot seems to be blocked, but I can't tell whether it's sealed shut, or whether there's a dummy card that's not coming out. The springloaded thingy doesn't push whatever it is out.

    TIA

I have the Express card which has an eject button on the left side of the slot (ie next to the front edge of the computer). It is necessary to push the button so that it springs out, then push it in again to eject the card (or the piece of plastic which fills the hole).

John, I tried the eject button, but nothing happened, which is why I though it's maybe closed off.

Ljnram, are there instructions anywhere on how to take the palmrest off?

Does the eject button come out about 1/2" after you push it in?

The dummy card in my slot is a very tight fit and difficult to remove without the eject button.

Enter your service tag into the Dell support site to see what slot type you should have.

The eject button comes out, but when I push it back in nothing happens.

The plot thickens...! I entered my service tag, but I couldn't find the pc card in the system configuration tab. When looking at my hardware manager in "my computer", however, it shows "PCMCIA adapters" and under that "Ricoh R/RL/5C476(II) or Compatible CardBus Controller".

Either the dummy card is too short or the eject mechanism isn't working properly.

There is definitely something in that slot because it is a basic configuration option. The 2nd item on my E6400's configuration is "EXPRESS CARD BASE : MOBILE INTEL INTEGRA".

Can you prise the dummy card out with a small screwdriver? I suggest you work from below.

it depends on what you ordered
i / we specified pcmcia card while others specified express card
i know, it has to be either and it can't be none of the above
