Or, more to the point, since I have only one VGA out from the laptop itself, would DVI be of any benefit at all? Would dual DVI mean that each external monitor would run better?

If not, I'll just get the cheaper docking station. For my desktop, which the E4300 is replacing, I have had one VGA and one DVI, and it is OK, but I like things the same if possible.

    Thanks for your insights, Dave

might want to fix your thread title :)

DVI generally gives a much better picture, at least on an LCD screen. I have done side-by-side tests with a Dell LCD monitor, connecting my Latitude D600 through a docking station to the screen via VGA and via DVI, and the DVI picture was noticeably cleaner and more precise.

If you're on a CRT screen, it probably wouldn't make a difference.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend the DVI dock.

Edit: you caught the title already, good :)

Yeah, I caught that and went wild trying to fix it and I thought I did but then I see I did not. Then I tried to find a way to delete it but no luck there.

I am going for the dual DVI, when I can. I have had a desktop for so darn long and have always wanted to try mobile, with all business on laptop. I hardly ever travel, and yet am consumed with desire to be "mobile". Plus I was hoping to get back some desk/office space. Well, so far the jury is out. But in fairness, I have not yet taken the desktop out of the room. the laptop is a little louder than I would like, as it is ON the desk rather than under, where my wonderfully silent Dell optiplex 745 has been for so long. I got a notebook cooler by Antec I am going to try out now. But I made them take it back if it is too loud. Any one know of a SILENT cooler?

Thanks for the answers. DVI it is. these old eyes need all the help they can get.

    Dave

Dual DVI ports are required if you want a dual monitor setup.
