Does anyone know how to prevent the NVidia drivers from disappearing?

I just installed 32bit vista and installed the drivers. Shortly afterwards, they disappeared and only the standard vga adapter was listed. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers again. Again, the 160M was listed correctly. I then installed PowerDVD which wouldn't play. I went back to the adapter and it had reverted back to Standard VGA.

This doesn't make sense to me. Thanks!

I've had about 8 instances where the machine boots to VGA mode. The nVidia is still in Device Manager but not working and without drivers. I suspect a system hardware level issue... either a hard fault or some conflict that cause the device to become 'lost' or not initialized properly. Since the video and overall hardware is mostly always working correctly, I intend to debug this issue by updating the BIOS and drivers as they are released... but I must wait until the machine comes home from college. :)

I discussed this issue with a dell tech and he agreed... go the soft update route until an obvious hardware fault requiring replacement is evident.

Thanks for the information. As you have stated, I hope a bios update or driver update solves this issue.
