The ship dates for M6700s ordered through Dell Enterprise are currently around 11/20/12.

The ship dates for M6700s ordered through Dell Business are currently around 11/09/12.

Can anyone comment or speculate on differences in ordering one or more M6700s from Dell Enterprise compared to ordering one or more identical M6700s from Dell Business?

Does anyone know why the Dell listed shipping dates are so different?

Could there be a different production process?

What else might explain the substantially different ship dates?

Could there be respectively different production plants/sites/locations?

Could there be different build quality or different quality in selection of brands and versions of parts such as SSDs?

If I do different kinds of work for different companies and can basically order one or more M6700s (for colleagues and myself) from Dell Enterprise (or one or more M6700s configured by pulling them through the Dell Enterprise portal), does anyone have any ideas about pros and cons besides the substantially different shipping dates? Does anyone imagine any good reasons to order through Dell Business for identically configured M6700s besides the different shipping dates? (My companies and I can get better deals (in one way or another) through/from the Enterprise division, though we also have accounts with Dell Business from the past that we could also use. So what to do?)

(Just to be more accurate there is one difference in the configuration on M6700s I am looking at from Dell Enterprise: they come with "Dell Data Protection Access" software version 2.2, which does serve certain useful purposes in certain corporate environments but none of this is relevant to the kinds of questions I am asking and seeking answers to above – answers in the form of pure speculation, well-informed knowledge/experience, hear-say, guess-work, or whatever.)

    Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It seems as though there is another temporary shortage of IPS monitors/panels for the M6700s. Perhaps there is no substantial or systemic difference in shipping times for M6700s ordered through Dell Enterprise and those ordered through Dell (Small and Medium) Business (as well as Dell Small Office). Perhaps certain Dell Enterprise webpages were simply updated a bit sooner than certain Dell Business webpages, and that this explains the aforementioned apparent difference in shipping times.

Nonetheless and in any case, I still wonder whether any forum users have any speculation or background knowledge of differences between M6700s ordered through/from Dell Enterprise, on the one hand, and M6700s ordered through/from Dell Business, on the other hand. Could they use different production methods/procedures? Could Dell intentionally produce them in different respective plants? Could any relevant factors make a difference to quality of build and/or parts?

    Any input/comments/speculation greatly appreciated.

I highly doubt there will be any difference in terms of hardware. Only the service plans might differ slightly.

Thanks for sharing your opinion oxygen. I tend to agree and hope you are right.

***New main question: Anyone familiar in anyway (good, bad, or indifferent) with the Dell Data Protection Access software, version 2.2, that ships with M6700s ordered through Dell Enterprise?

As regards access plans, my old M90s/M6300s ordered through Dell Enterprise shipped with an IT form of (Pro)Support designated for communication from one IT tech (Dell client/customer end) to another IT tech (Dell ProSupport end). Although such options do still appear available as oxygen seems rightly to have suggested, Dell Enterprise also configures and ships with plain old ProSupport (though if you check the sku #s, the ProSupport from Dell Enterpise has different numbers than the ProSupport with the same name from Dell Business, perhaps also as oxygen seems rightly to have suggested).

Nonetheless and any case, as asked above, any input/comment on Dell Data Protection Access software, version 2.2?
