I recently returned my E6400 ATG for service and they replaced it with a refurbished E6430 ATG. This was earlier this year at the very end of my three year warranty. My warranty service ended around the time they shipped the replacement.

So now less than a month later I am already having problems with the replacement. The very top right corner of the touchscreen is dim and I'm also having a weird DPC problem that may be due to faulty hardware. Because I'm out of warranty Dell has offered to replace the screen if I buy an extended warranty. I'm considering it since I've found a workaround for the DPC problem and the unit is otherwise functioning pretty well.

Dell offered me the following "return to depot" extended warranty prices:
    1 year @ $270, or:
    2 years @ $430, or:
    3 years @ $590

Is it just me or do those prices seem excessive? I've read Dell extended warranty prices can vary even for the same hardware. I'm curious if anyone here has been in a similar situation and bought an extended warranty from Dell after the fact, and what prices they were quoted.

    Thanks

I'm curious about this. I had a similar issue with a previous machine — it needed a motherboard replacement about 3 weeks before the 3-year warranty was up. The Dell tech told me that warranty hardware is covered for 90 days even if your machine's regular warranty is up in the meantime. I never had to do further checking on this, though.

Since you had your machine replaced and it is having issues so soon, you should be able to have it serviced without any further cost to you. Technically, if the machine they sent has issues, then they haven't fixed your original problem which occurred inside of your warranty period. You might have to "rattle the cage" a little, but I think they'll accommodate you.
