Ok I have an good 'ol dell latitude x1.
Its speakers died out a few months back and it has a cracked LID as shown in the picture.
I would like to get these things fixed as well as replace the keyboard.
For the speakers, I can't find anyplace to get speakers for the x1, which is not surprising. I'm just wondering if I got some laptop speakers from a different model laptop and if they were small enough to fit inside the laptop where the original ones were, could I plug them into the mobo so they would work(I hope I'm explaining this correctly)?

Also I plan on getting a new lid and trim cause of the crack so if anyone has something they can advise me with please do.

Thanks for any help and advice ect.

What happened to the speaker, if I may ask? Is the sound card OK?

Does the notebook work well after the crack? Mine has survived a lighter crack (on the opposite side of the lid). I have just isolated it from the dust atc. There are only few small dark spot in the very bottom of the screen which have appeared since then (I don't know why and what they mean).

In you place I would first experiment with a speaker from an old 2$ worth headset...

You can purchase very cheap headsets from www.dealextreme.com. It's a Chinese shop but it works.

With some patience and system you may find an offer of defect X1 for spare parts on ebay (I did recently for Latitude X300).

PS: Check my "good news for X1 owners" thread:
