Does anyone have any experience with Dell's new Wireless 1510 card in their laptops? How does it compare to the Intel Wireless 5100/5300?

I'm picking up a new Vostro 1320 but it unfortunately can't be configured with an Intel wireless card in Canada; I just want to make sure that I won't have any issues with the Dell.

Any postive or negative feedback regarding the card would be greatly appreciated.

The dell is a Broadcom card which more or less is a preference issue vs the Intel cards... I'm using the 1510 and it has dropped my connection several times, but perhaps that is due to my router because this happened with my old laptop as well. For the most part, it does its job. Hope that helps.

My Studio 1535 had a Dell/Broadcom 1397 wireless-G card, with 2 antenna plugs. I recently purchased an Intel WiFi Link 5300, wireless-N with 3 antennae, and after installing the drivers, it's been working great. Even though I don't have an 'N' router yet, performance has been great even on 'G'.

The 5100 is a kind of low end Intel card.
    I'd prefer it like this
    5300 > 4965AGN (you didn't mention it but it's another common N card) > 1510 > 5100

I have used all three. On my son's E6400, the 5100 drops connections coming out of sleep. He turns off almost all the power management, and I think it works more reliably now. I have no trouble with the 5300 or the 1510. I would say that if you want to save money, get the 1510. I am assuming that you need half-height cards?

I'm pretty sure that the Vostro only supports half-height cards; I already ordered the Vostro with the 1510 and may decide to by the Intel card seperately after the fact if need be.

To be honest, it just sucks that the machine will not have true "Centrino 2" branding due to the lack of the Intel card. Oh well...
