Still in the process of buying an Outlet E6530. Of course all configs are some kind of compromise, but how bad/decent are the Dell WiFi cards compared to the Intel Advanced and Ultimate?

Which dell wifi cards are you referring to about? Intel wifi the newer one not older generations before 3964 - I might have the numbers wrong - work quite well for me but sometimes some dell only take dell wifi cards so there are limits unless the dell service manual has intel wifi as a option then I would go for the intel first. But your wifi is only good as the router it connects to so a bad or outdate wifi won't be able to give you more speed beyond it's design capacity. But first choice would be Intel wifi if it accepts it and then back to dell should all else fail. But I used dell 1505 wifi in a Dell 1525 and get very good wifi with my router and have no problem connecting.

The Dell cards aren't bad, the 1501 is just weak in terms of performance though. The Intel cards have found a spot in my heart because every 6200 and 6300 adapter I've had has been reliable and with good performance, so my vote goes to Intel, but not because the Dell cards are bad.

The Dell card is the 1540 Dual band, one is a 1504. Do I have it right that these can't be user swapped out for an Intel card?

    Thanks Darkydark,
My assumption was wrong, so I doublechecked with ProSupport and you are correct ;-) Thank you!

If you're going to spend $$ and buy a new card, get the intel 7260AC. you'll have support for the new 802.11ac standard. plus in my (limited) experience, 7260AC card with 2 antenna has better reception and speed than 6300N with 3 antenna.

There are 6 to 8 versions of the 7260AC so make sure you get the right one. they can be had for $20 to $30 each.

Would the 6530 be able to take advantage of the extra speed? Either way it sounds like a pretty reasonable cost upgrade
