dell warranty

    I have a latitude d830 and it has been having heat problems. I know this is a common problem with the latitude series. It has shut off a few times due to heat and the fan seems like it is blowing at full capacity all the time. My question is if it is worth it to send into dell for the 8-12 days and even if they will fix anything.

    It may be worthwhile to check out the cooling guide before sending your laptop for repairs. Your laptop may just need a good cleaning and that's it~!

    If you have it on a hard surface and the air vents are clean and its still having problems then yes, you should send it in.

    Btw, what is your processor utilization?

    Don't just look from the outside if the airvent is clean or not. We have had a HP number of laptops at work that didn't look more dusty than others from the outside but when you opened them up you realized why they had problems. The dust collects at the inside of the airvent and on some laptops there was a solid 0.5 cm layer of thick dust at this place and it causes the laptop to overheat and turn off when running something cpu intensive.

    cant agree more.....the inside is where the dust builds up...sometimes its unbelievable how thick the layer is....its like a carpet!

    it happened to one of my notebooks, i was shocked because i only had it for 2 months!
