Hi, some time ago i was searching the web for the best laptop deal and dell vostro 1510 seemed like the right choice for me since it offers quite alot for the money invested. Since there are no authorized dell dealers in bosnia i was going to order it in austria. It all worked fine, i found someone who can get if for me but there was a problem regarding the price of the laptop. Vostro belong to the bussines line of laptops and can't be ordered online, but can be ordered by phone (so i have been told) the only problem is that then the price of the laptop rises from 600 euros to around 800 euros (both prices with VAT and delivery)... Is it a common practice by dell to raise the price for the private customer and why is this so? How can i find out the real price of a laptop if i want to order one from them?

Online, the price is listed without tax. This is because businessess can get the tax back, so the amount they pay at the end of the month is essentialy the ex-vat price.
Consumers can't dodge the tax, so you pay more.

I realize that, but even with the VAT included in both prices the price varies by some 200 euros between the price on the website and the price "on the phone" :)
Is that the common practice in the rest of europe or is austrian dell some kind of an exception?

    What rate is Austrian VAT?
    In Ireland it's 21%, so:

    (€600 x 1.21)
    + €35 (delivery)
    ______________
    =€761

Which is about what your price jump is?

Yeah, your calculation would be correct if they were charging VAT twice ;) Read my first post more carefully...

To make a long story short here is a screenshot...
Thats the situation on the site, so the price for the laptop is 592 euros WITH delivery and VAT but im told over the phone that the same laptop costs more than 800 euros... So my question is: can Vostros be ordered by ordinairy ppl and does it cost us more than companies (if tax were to be INCLUDED in the price)?

I live in the U.S. and when I ordered my Vostro 1500 online towards the end of the ordering process, I was also asked for the company name (firm) and I just put my last name in and that was it. The vostro was delivered to my door step.

I did not try to order over the phone so I do not know if the price would have been any different here in the U.S.
