I hope moderator will forgive me for asking a desktop question on a notebook forum. This is the only forum I found a complete guide on formating OS and removing Dell bloatware.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838

I have a few question. As for Desktop , does it have media direct install in Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower ?
As I know Dell Laptop partition would be
    # Partition 1 - Diagnostics Partition
    # Partition 2 - Vista Partition
    # Partition 3 - Media Direct Partition
    # Partition 4 - Restore Partition
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=88032
but I'm not sure about Dell Desktop partition.

I plan to install window XP into it while keeping all 3 partition , Vista OS , recovery partition and Dell Utility.

Is it possible to do it ?

Why keep the recovery partition, that will only recover Vista...
But no, to answer your question, Media Direct is only for laptops. What you want to do is possible...
But why? I'd clear all the partitions.

For back up purpose eventhough sticking with XP.I would not like to mess around dell partition which may cause damage on warranty.

I just wanted to know what are the partition for Dell Desktop since there is no media direct installed in it.As mention , planning to shrink the hard disk using vista shrinking tools and allocate it to install XP.

You can change the hard drive partitions however you would like without voiding your warranty.

From memory installing a few of these systems last year there's just the 2 partitions, recovery and system.

So , what about the Diagnostic Tools ? Can someone kindly tell me how many preallocated partitions on Dell Vostro 200 hard disk ?

I plan to install window XP while keeping VIsta , recovery and others.
As I know the MBR Partition Table is limited to 4 primary partitions. If it does not have 4 primary partitions , I can install window XP on it.
