    i currently have 2gb of ram

    You can put 2 x 2gig modules in. You probably have 2 x 1gig modules at the mo'.

    Got 4GB in my 1700 (after market from Crucial). Works a treat ;-)
    You'll only be able to use about 3581MB unless you have Vista 64 but it's a worthwhile upgrade and future prrofs you should you decide to go 64 bit at any point.

    you currently have 2gb ram and yes, you'll be able to upgrade to 4gb but 3gb is enough for the moment i.e 1x2gb + 1x1gb

    Love my Vostro 1700 with the 8600GT discreet graphics card. It's one of the better laptops Dell has made. :cool:
