Dell Vostro 1540 cpu

Hi is it possible to upgrade the cpu on this model and if so to which one ? it has a i3 M370 also what is the maximum amount of ram you can run thankyou

 

Maximum should be 8GB if on 2 bays, running i5 CPU. If you have more bays, an i7 will make use of them upping your ram capacity.
Basically, maximum 4gb sticks each, with a max of 2 sticks, or 3-4 if you have i7.

If your system temperatures with the i3 under full load while doing something like wprime 1024 are under 70 degrees celsius, you could probably upgrade safely. However, since laptop uses integrated GPU only, you'll have to use a CPU with iGPU. The fastest one is i7-640m/620m, followed by i5-580m or lower.

 

Thanks for that this is the Ram i am thinking of getting Award winning supplier, performance hardware & systems - Scan.co.uk but i don't no which to get ie the timing has me a little confused could you offer any advise as to which is the better one to get

 

The timing and speed isn't going to make a practice difference except in some corner cases. Just get any old DDR3 with a decent warranty and be done with it.
