    Guys,
    Pls Help!!!
I am facing a strange problem. My Dell Vostro 1500 notebook does not turn ON on pressing the power button. The power light comes on for a fraction of a second and then its gone. Nothing happens. No CPU, No Fan, nothing.
This happens with or without the AC adapter attached.
Moreover, after some tries, (i.e after repeatedly pressing the power on button, tilting/shaking the notebook), suddenly the notebook turns ON and then I am able to work on it as if nothing has happened. But once I shut down the system, again while starting the same thing is repeated.

Pls help me..what could be the source of the problem
    1. AC adapter:confused:
    2. Memory (RAM) not attached properly:rolleyes:
    3. Motherboard:eek:
    4. Processor:eek:
    or something else.

If it only happened with the AC Adapter, I'd say it was the motherboard or adapter itself. Since it does it on AC and DC, and "Shaking" seems to resolve the problem temporarily, I would check your ram.

Remove your battery and see if it will start without the battery. If it starts, then replace the battery. For some reason, this works sometimes.

The last time that I had a problem with a laptop exhibiting a similar problem, the motherboard finally failed after doing that for several times.

Like Just Lou suggests, you might check to make sure that you RAM is seated properly and other connections under the keyboard like Bluetooth, WAN cards, etc. You could have a loose connection since shaking it works. This is especially true if you have been inside your computer.

Remove the heat sink and re-seat it again if re-seating the memory does not work. Check my guide in my sig on how to get to the ram stick below your keyboard.

This probably happens because of static charges.

    Anyway this worked for me
    a) Remove the battery and the AC adaptor and other external units.
    b) Then hold the power switch for 20 sec ( this should discharge the static charges )
    c) now boot the system connecting only the ac adaptor ( without batt )
    d) if it works connect back the batt and download and update the latest bios from dell.com.

However if this does not work, probably problem with the mother board or ram.

try booting using the fn key + power switch and let it scan the system.

    Enjoy.
