How do I determine, without doubt, which motherboard I should be getting off eBay? There are at least three models (probably more) out there that claim to be for the Vostro 1400, including:

    TT361
    TT356
    TT347

Also: can I determine which motherboard model I currently have by reading it off the PCB somewhere?

You don't need to have the exact part number; just make sure you get the Nvidia or Intel motherboard (depending on which one you have). Obviously if you currently have an Nvidia motherboard, I'd recommend switching to the Intel one, though you may have to change the heatsink.
