    Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knows, or could make good educated guess on how long I could get out of a Vostro 1310 with a 4-Cell battery, with battery saving mode, approx 20% LCD brightness, wifi on, surfing the net.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

I recently bought a Vostro 1310 w/ a 4-cell battery (6-cell batteries are only available w/ delays for all vostro models at the moment):

For your specifications my battery lasts 2hrs 40min.

i am guessing it depends on if u have the nvidia 8400M GS or the Intel Integrated graphics. But on average probably around 1.5-2.3 hours depending on the system setup and way the notebook is used.

My D420 gets about 1.5-2 hours with about half brightness so 2.4 wouldn't an outlandish estimation on low brightness for the the Vostro 1310 if you have an integrated card.

honestly, the vostro 1310 with a 4 cell doesn't really last long. its actually quite poor.

on full charge (20% brightness), vista tells me i have about 2 hours 15 minutes (though i've realised its not all that accurate). quite crap have to bring a charger everywhere. if i put in on minimum brightness and have wifi on surfing the net it is about 2 hours to 2hours 20. Some times it tells me 50mins (at 33% battery life) which means it is 2.5 hours at full.

my specs are 2.1GHz,3GB,8400GS,250GB,4 Cell,Vista Business,13.3"Matte, (i got it then for about 1100)

happy with specs:cost ratio but not with battety life.

    i may as well rite a mini-review :)

build: solid, cover finger print magnet but easily removed (careful tho because wiping it too much gives scratches)
    keyboard: average
trackpad: bit small but pretty accurate
performance with vista: with my specs of 2X2.1ghz and 3gb ram its actually quite ok and comparable to my PC at 2X1.86ghz, 1 gb ram on XP
battery life: with a 4 cell poor. max i can squeeze out (wifi off, bluetooth off, lowest brightness, aero off, sidebar off) is about 2 hrs 20 to 30mins. my advice? get a 6 cell, or better still a 9 cell. :) (any1 know where i can get these without getting it from dell)
screen: i have matte which is great for keeping the annoying glare, BUT, matte makes it look more "dull" compared to a glossy. as with most screens. :)
ports enough USB's (4) but annoyed with no HDMI. tho...it is a business laptop
    comparison with sim laptops:
xps m1330, the xps wins in terms of build, looks and weight. its also got a HDMI. however, down here is australia, it costs $500 more for slightly inferior specs.
apple macbook, apple is more expensive but looks undeniably better. however its on apple which may be a problem for some.
hp pavillion, not as good specs to cost
dell vostro 1200. ok, for this one, the 1200 is way thicker and isn't really that much smaller. its an old model and it doesn't look as good imo.

conclusion. for over 4 months, i sought a lightweight, 13.3" inch, non-apple (tho they are quite good) laptop that had the best specs for the cheapest price. looks didn't bother me at all as all i needed it for was for carrying around uni and had to be quite light. the dell vostro 1310 is the cheapest 13.3" laptop for good specs laptop. however, if ur thinking of getting it, do yourself a favour and upgrade the battery to a 6 cell.

hope it helps and thanks for all your help my fellow NBRians. :)

2 hours isn't bad considering the low capacity of a 4 cell. I agree that for those wanting to spend long peroids on battery would be better off with a 6 cell.

    I bought it! T8100 2.1Ghz/3GB/160GB/8400GS/Glossy Screen/4-Call Batt $1069

2 Hours and 10 Min with wifi on and maybe 2 hours 30 min with it off. I really wanna get a 9 cell but it's $300+ :(

Because this is a new model, the generic makers haven't come out with compatible batteries yet but in the next month or 2 they should and a 9 cell should cost $150-$200 and you'll get 5-6 hours out of it.

I'm happy with my Vostro 1310. If I were picky I'd say it would be nice if it was a bit thinner and lighter, and I'd criticize the mono speaker but for under $1100 it's surprisingly fast it is nice and light and easy on the back/shoulders to carry around for long periods of time. The bluetooth mouse that came with mine is great too. Very good and reliable transaction and delivery with dell.

Yes, they've gone downhill with their speakers recently. The D610s stereo speakers aren't half bad (No comparison with a set of external speakers but decent for a laptop and able to go quite load), the new business models seem to have moved towards mono speakers because they think business users don't care about it.

my vostro 1310 with 6-cell battery could last me 4-5 hours with Vista's power saver mode. :)
